Established in 1848, the old synagogue in Merthyr Tydfil is the oldest purpose built synagogue in Wales, since closing as a place of worship it has been used as a gym and community centre and is now being renovated into Welsh-Jewish Museum. It's also been depicted in a lesser known L.S. Lowry work.
